The film Élan Vital was quite the project to write both diegetic music (in-world) and non-diegetic music (not heard by the characters). This non-diegetic track, "The Gatekeeper," fades up as the diegetic track "The Blue Lady" fades down. The only thing in common with both songs is the guitar. You'll have to watch the movie to see/hear what I mean.
